Hazrat Imam Malik (rahmatullahi alaihe) collected Al-Muwatta. Imam Malik (rahmatullahi alaihe) is also known as “Najm” or the star. Imam Shafi'i (rahmatullahi alaihe) described Muwatta as one of the most purest books in the world. Hazrat Ibn Arabi (rahmatullahi alaihe) stated that Muwatta is the source and Shahih Bukhari is the second source. Hazrat Shah Abdul Aziz Muhaddese Dehlavi (rahmatullahi alaihe) described Muwatta as the core foundation of both Bukhari Shareef and Muslim Shareef.
