"Go and excavate a well where I have placed a stick."

Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Jalil is renowned as the author of “Kutubul Alam.”

Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Jalil was the son of Hazrat Hakem and the brother of Sheikh Abu Bakr Ibn Abul Fatah. Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Jalil was also the spiritual successor to his brother Sheikh Abu Bakr Ibn Abul Fatah.

During the reign of Sultan Sikandar Lodi, Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Jalil accompanied the Sultan to Agra when the city was chosen as the capital city.

Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Jalil was very pious and a learned Islamic scholar. When Agra was chosen as the capital city, its water was not drinkable because of high concentration of salt in the water. Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Jalil wanted to build a well of drinkable water. During this time, Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Jalil was blessed with the auspicious vision of the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) in a dream. In the dream, the Beloved Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) stated: “Go and excavate a well where I have placed a stick.”

During dawn, Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Jalil went to the very place that he had seen in the dream. He discovered that there was a stick on the ground.

Without delay, Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Jalil carried the instructions from the dream and excavated a well on the spot. The well produced sweet drinking water.

Both the Khankah (convent) of Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Jalil and the well have become very famous over time. The Khankah and the well are situated in the Jogipura area in Agra in present-day India.
