Dream of Sultan Mahmood Shah Begra

Mahmood Shah Begra ascended to the throne in Gujarat in 861 Hijri. In the Gregorian calendar, it was 1855 A.D.

Sultan Mahmood Shah Begra successfully confronted the Portuguese forces when they invaded Gujarat by sea. The Portuguese forces suffered defeat and their most powerful warship was destroyed. The Portuguese forces were compelled to retreat because of their defeat. Sultan Mahmood Shah Begra attained fame because of his extraordinary victory over the Portuguese forces. During his reign, the Sultan built up formidable ground and naval forces.

In 871 Hijri, Sultan Mahmood Shah Begra was blessed with an auspicious dream. In the dream, the Sultan saw that the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) was feeding him delicious food with his blessed hand.

Islamic scholars later interpreted this dream and stated that the Sultan would go on to accomplish many remarkable battle victories. Subsequently, this turned out to be true. Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala gave the Sultan such outstanding victories that few rulers had seen before.

Muhammad Sadeq Hussain Siddiqui recounts Sultan Mahmood’s dream in the fifth volume of “Tarikh-e-Alam-e-Islam.” According to the book, the Sultan dreamt the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) in 872 Hijri. In the dream, the Beloved Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) affectionately gave the Sultan two dishes. A few days afterwards, the Sultan conquered two renowned areas. One of these was Gornal and the other was Japanir. In both of these areas, Hindu rulers persecuted the Muslims. The non-Muslim rulers prevented local Muslims from growing beard and from sacrificing cows. The rulers also forced the Muslims to worship the Hindu deity Shiva Linga in mosques.

Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala brought these two areas under complete Muslim control. King Raimonda, the ruler of Gornal, subsequently accepted Islam. To celebrate this, Sultan Mahmood Shah Begra built a new town in the vicinity of Gornal which he named as Mustaphabad.

Japanir was conquered on the 20th of Dhu al-Qi'dah in 889 Hijri. The Hindu Rajputs suffered defeat in this area. The Sultan also built a city nearby which he named as Muhammadbad.

Sultan Mahmood Shah Begra died after the Asr Prayer at the age of 61 on the 2nd of Ramadan in 917 Hijri. The Sultan manifested many noble qualities. In 1946, Dr. Ishtiaq Hussain Qureshi, a renowned Muslim scholar of the Indian subcontinent, presented a treatise on the victories of Sultan Mahmood Shah Begra.

Emperor Aurangzeb called Gujarat Jint-e-Hindustan.

"Build the well here"

Sultan Shamsuddin Iltutmish of Delhi was a very pious person and a true devotee of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. The word “Iltutmish” derives from the Turkish word “Altotmish” which means the consolidator of power.

Shamsuddin Iltutmish was the son of Ailom Khan, the famous leader of Turkistan. Because of his superior qualities, Shamsuddin Iltutmish was dearly loved by his father. This created jealously in his brothers. The brothers treated Shamsuddin Iltutmish exactly the same way that Hazrat Yusuf (alaihe assalam) was treated by his brothers. One day, the brothers sold Shamsuddin Iltutmish to a horse trader in Bukhara. After being sold several times, Shamsuddin Iltutmish came to Delhi. He was purchased by Qutub uddin Aybak, the then viceroy of Delhi. This is how Shamsuddin Iltutmish came within the corridor of the royal power in Delhi.

Sultan Shamsuddin Iltutmish ascended to throne in 1210 AD. The Sultan once expressed his desire to build a well. The Sultan, accompanied by his attendants, went around searching for a suitable place to build the well. He selected a place where the “Shamsi well” is currently located. After the Sultan had selected the place, he decided to sleep upon his prayer rug at night to know whether the spot he selected was right.

Sultan Shamsuddin Iltutmish was blessed with an auspicious dream during the night. In the dream, he saw an individual of great beauty and radiance. The individual was on horseback and was accompanied by other men. The great individual called Sultan Shamsuddin Iltutmish and asked: “What do you want?” At this the Sultan replied: “I want to build a very big well.” At this time, some one said: “He is the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam). Submit your wishes before him.” Hearing this, Sultan Shamsuddin Iltutmish fell to the blessed feet of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam). This is the spot where the shamsi well is currently located. As the horse of the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) struck its feet in the dream, water came out immediately from the ground. The Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) then stated: “Oh Shams! Build the well here. This place will produce water of such superior quality that will not be available any where else.”

Sultan Shamsuddin Iltutmish woke up afterwards. He went to the place and found that water was coming out of the very spot that he had seen in the dream.

Hazrat Qutbuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki (rahmatullahi alaihe), the spiritual mentor of Sultan Shamsuddin Iltutmish, writes in the book “Faoayedus Salekin” that the well brought two distinct blessings. First, the well brought the barakah of the blessed feet of the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam). Second, the place subsequently came to house the holy graves of some very pious Muslims. The souls of some martyrs have also been reported to have seen here.

Shamsi well was built in 627 Hijri. The well is situated in between two mountains. The entire town gets its water from the well.

Memorization of the the Holy Qu’ran

Hazrat Khwaja Bakhtiyar Kaki (rahmatullahi alaihe) was born in Turkistan in 583 Hijri. He passed away in Delhi on the 14th of Rabiul Awwal in 633 Hijri during the period of Sultan Iltutmish. Khawza Bakhtiyar Kaki (rahmatullahi alaihe) was the spiritual successor of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisty (rahmatullahi alaihe).

Khwaja Bakhtiyar Kaki (rahmatullahi alaihe) narrates that he was once very anxious to memorize the holy Qu’ran. However, it proved to be extremely difficult for him to memorize the Holy Qu’ran.

On one auspicious night, Khwaja Bakhtiyar Kaki (rahmatullahi alaihe) saw the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) in a dream. In the dream, Khwaja Bakhtiyar Kaki (rahmatullahi alaihe) cried and humbly stated: “Please give me some memory so that I can memorize the Holy Qu’ran.”

The Beloved Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) showed mercy to Khwaja Bakhtiyar Kaki (rahmatullahi alaihe) and stated: “Recite Surah Yusuf. You will be able to memorize the Holy Qu’ran if Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala wants.”

Upon awakening, Khwaja Bakhtiyar Kaki (rahmatullahi alaihe) started to recite Surah Yusuf. As a result, Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala gave him the ability to memorize the Holy Qu’ran at an advanced age.

According to Khwaja Bakhtiyar Kaki (rahmatullahi alaihe), whoever wants to memorize the Holy Qu’ran should regularly recite Surah Yusuf.

Kingdom from the dream

Amir Abdur Rahman Khan received the title of Zia-ul-Millat-Wa-ud Din ("Light of the nation and religion") from his fellow countrymen. The British government honoured him with the titles “His Highness” and “GCSI”. Amir Abdur Rahman Khan was a very pious and devout Muslim.

In his autobiography, Amir Abdur Rahman Khan writes that the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) gave him a kingdom in dream. Amir Abdur Rahman Khan narrates that he became victorious with the blessings of a flag from the holy grave of Hazrat Khawja Ahrar (rahmatullahi alaihe). Abdur Rahman Khan writes that Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala saved him from bullets and swords with the blessings of a tabeez (amulet). He writes that Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala gave him knowledge from the Unseen.

In the second volume of his autobiography, Abdur Rahman Khan notes that he learned from history that the downfall of Muslim states occurs only because of discord and disunity amongst the Muslims. He writes that Muslims will become victorious only when they fully adhere to the Hadith “Muslims are brothers”. According to Abdur Rahman Khan, the main reason of the downfall of Muslim nations is the non-adherence to this particular Hadith by the Muslims.

Dream of Mohiuddin Ibn Arabi (rahmatullahi alaihe)

Hazrat Sheikh Mohiuddin Ibn Arabi (rahmatullahi alaihe) narrates that he developed enmity with a particular individual for the only reason that the individual used to speak ill of Hazrat Sheikh Abu Madyan (rahmatullahi alaihe).

He speaks ill of a person called Abu Madyan. I am fond of Abu Madyan.”

The Beloved Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) stated: “Does not the individual maintain love for Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala and his Messenger (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam)?” Mohiuddin Ibn Arabi (rahmatullahi alaihe) stated: “Yes, he does.” The Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) further stated: “Since he maintains enmity with Abu Madyan, you also maintain enmity with him. You maintain enmity with him and do not love him even though he maintains love for Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala and his Messenger (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam).”

In the morning, Mohiuddin Ibn Arabi (rahmatullahi alaihe) repented from all ill will towards the individual. Mohiuddin Ibn Arabi (rahmatullahi alaihe) went to the residence of the individual and asked for his forgiveness. He gave the individual an expensive shawl as gift.

When the individual became pleased, Mohiuddin Ibn Arabi (rahmatullahi alaihe) asked: “Why do you maintain enmity with Abu Madyan?” His response showed that there was no real foundation for his enmity with Abu Madyan. Mohiuddin Ibn Arabi (rahmatullahi alaihe) dispelled all misconceptions that the individual held about Abu Madyan. Afterwards, the individual repented from speaking ill of Abu Madyan.

The individual subsequently became fond of Sheikh Abu Madyan because of the barakah or blessings of the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam).

He migrated to Bodayun during the time of Kutubuddin Aibak or at the beginning of the reign of Shamsuddin Iltutmish. The book “Mashararekul Anwar” was the fruits of the life-long endeavour of Sheikh Raziuddin (rahmatullahi alaihe).

“This book is Fusûs al-Hikam"

Sheikh Muhyiddeen Ibn Arabi (rahmatullahi alaihe) was born on the 17th of Ramadan of 560 Hijri in the city of Mucia in Spain. He was a descendant of world-famous benefactor Hatem Tai. Hatem Tai was well known for his generosity both inside and outside of the Arab world.

Sheikh Ibn Arabi (rahmatullahi alaihe) migrated from Spain in 598 Hijri. He passed away at the age of 87 in Damascus on the 28th day of Rabius Sani in 638 Hijri. His love for the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) is unmistakable in every line in his famous book “Fusûs al-Hikam.” In fact, Sheikh Ibn Arabi (rahmatullahi alaihe) composed the book upon instructions from the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam).

In his preface to “Fusûs al-Hikam”, Sheikh Ibn Arabi (rahmatullahi alaihe) writes that he was living in Damascus and it was the last day of the month of Muharram. During this time, Sheikh Ibn Arabi (rahmatullahi alaihe) was blessed with the vision of the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) in a dream. In the dream, Sheikh Ibn Arabi (rahmatullahi alaihe) saw that the Beloved Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) carried a book in his blessed hand. The Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) looked at Sheikh Ibn Arabi (rahmatullahi alaihe) and stated: “This book is Fusûs al-Hikam. Take this book and publish it among the people so that they can obtain benefits.” At this, Sheikh Ibn Arabi (radi Allah unhu) replied: “I have listened with all my heart and I will do my utmost to carry out your orders insha Allah.”

A dream on the 27th of Ramadan

Hazrat Sheikh Abul Hasan Shajoli narrates that he was blessed with the vision of the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) on the eve of Lailatul Kadr (Blessed Night), the 27th of Ramadan.

In the dream, the Beloved Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) stated: “Purify your attire from uncleanliness so that you can be always successful with the help from Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.” At this, Sheikh Abul Hasan Shajoli asked: “Oh Rasool Allah sallallahu alaihe wa sallam! Which attire?” The Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) answered: “Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala has given you five attires. The first one is the attire of the Marefat of Allah. The second one is the attire of the love for Allah. The third one is the attire of the Tauhid of Allah. The fourth one is the attire of Iman. The fifth one is the attire of Islam.”

When a person truly loves Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, every thing on earth appears negligible to him. All earthly things seem banal to the person who achieves true Marefat (recognition) of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. A person will never associate Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala with any thing when he comes to firmly believe in the Tauhid (oneness) of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. As soon as a person believes in Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, he becomes free of all earthly fears and concerns. When a person fully embraces Islam, he will never disobey Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. If such a person makes unintentional mistakes, he will immediately ask for the forgiveness of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.

Hazrat Sheikh Abul Hasan Shajoli narrates that he came to realize after the dream that the significance of a particular ayat of the Holy Qu’ran was to lead one’s life for the sake of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.

Caliph Hazrat Ali (radi Allah unhu)

Hazrat Abu Bakr Katani (rahmatullahi alaihe) narrates that he held a silent misconception about Hazrat Ali (radi Allah unhu).

The Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) is narrated to have said of Hazrat Ali (radi Allah unhu): “La fata illa Ali (there is no brave man except Ali).

Hazrat Abu Bakr Katani (rahmatullahi alaihe) used to believe that if Hazrat Ali (radi Allah unhu) had been truly brave, he would have transferred power to Muawia although Hazrat Ali (radi Allah unhu) was rightly guided and Muawia was wrongly guided. Hazrat Abu Bakr Katani (rahmatullahi alaihe) thought that transferring power to Muawia would have at least saved many lives.

Hazrat Abu Bakr Katani (rahmatullahi alaihe) narrates that his residence was in between the Safa and the Marwah Mountains.

One night, Hazrat Abu Bakr Katani (rahmatullahi alaihe) was blessed with the vision of the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) in a dream. The Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) was accompanied by the four rightly-guided Caliphs. In the dream, the Beloved Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) hugged Hazrat Abu Bakr Katani (rahmatullahi alaihe). Afterwards, the Beloved Prophet of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) pointed to Hazrat Abu Bakr (radi Allah unhu) and asked: “Who is he?” Hazrat Abu Bakr Katani (rahmatullahi alaihe) replied: “This is Hazrat Abu Bakr (radi Allah unhu).” The Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) then pointed to Hazrat Omar (radi Allah unhu) and asked: “Who is he?” Hazrat Abu Bakr Katani (rahmatullahi alaihe) replied: “This is Hazrat Omar (radi Allah unhu).” After this, the Beloved Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) pointed to Hazrat Osman (radi Allah unhu) and asked: “Who is he?” Hazrat Abu Bakr Katani (rahmatullahi alaihe) replied: “This is Hazrat Osman (radi Allah unhu).”

The Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) then turned to Hazrat Ali (radi Allah unhu) and asked a similar question. At this, Hazrat Abu Bakr Katani (rahmatullahi alaihe) remembered his opinion about Hazrat Ali (radi Allah unhu) and became very ashamed. Hazrat Abu Bakr Katani (rahmatullahi alaihe) could no longer say anything. The Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) called Hazrat Ali (radi Allah unhu) as the brother of Hazrat Abu Bakr Katani (rahmatullahi alaihe). After hearing this, Hazrat Ali (radi Allah unhu) and Hazrat Abu Bakr Katani (rahmatullahi alaihe) hugged each other in the dream.

In the dream, everyone left except Hazrat Ali (radi Allah unhu). Hazrat Ali (radi Allah unhu) said: “Let us go to the Abu Kobais Mountain.” Afterwards, both Hazrat Ali (radi Allah unhu) and Hazrat Abu Bakr Katani (rahmatullahi alaihe) came to the top of the mountain and saw the view of the Holy Kaba from there.

Upon awakening, Hazrat Abu Bakr Katani (rahmatullahi alaihe) found that he was in fact on the Abu Kobais Mountain as he had been in the dream. At that time, Hazrat Abu Bakr Katani (rahmatullahi alaihe) was completely free of any misconception about Hazrat Ali (radi Allah unhu).

“Keep your five senses under control”

Hazrat Dataganj Baksh (rahmatullahi alaihe) was a renowned Muslim scholar and saint. His mazar (grave) is situated in Lahore, Pakistan.

Hazrat Dataganj Baksh (rahmatullahi alaihe) had the distinction to see the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) in dream several times. He once saw the Beloved Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) in a dream. In the dream, Hazrat Dataganj Baksh (rahmatullahi alaihe) asked: “Oh Rasool Allah sallallahu alaihe wa sallam! The five senses consist of hearing, sight, taste, touch, and smell. Bringing these five senses under control to serve Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala is the ultimate devotion and goal of every Muslim. Only by harnessing the five senses for the pleasure of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala can one become a true and pious Muslim. All knowledge and awareness are obtained through the five senses.

On one auspicious night, Ibrahim Ibn Eshak saw the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) in a dream. In the dream, the Beloved Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) ordered: “Release the murder suspect.”

One night, a very beautiful girl was brought before the gang. With great modesty, the girl stated that she was from a very good family and was a direct descendant of the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam). She further stated that the Beloved Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) was her grandfather and that Hazrat Fatima Zahra (radi Allah unha) was her mother. The girl begged the gang members to let her go. Her words created a profound effect on the murder suspect.

The murder suspect immediately proceeded to release the girl. However, others did not want to release the girl. Instead they wanted to destroy the chastity of the girl. At this, the murder suspect stabbed the culprit who had attacked the girl. In the ensuing fight, the culprit was killed and the suspect was wounded. The suspect motioned to the girl and she escaped. When the crowd gathered, the suspect had blood-stained knife in his hand. He was arrested and taken into custody.

After hearing this, Ibrahim Ibn Eshak released the murder suspect in the name of Allah Subhanahu Wa Tala'a and the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam). Later, the murder suspect repented and led an honest and pious life.

Bread from the dream

Hazrat Abu Abdullah Ebnul Jala (rahmatullahi alaihe) narrates that he was once without any food for two days while in Madinah al-Munawara. In this condition, Abu Abdullah Ebnul Jala (rahmatullahi alaihe) presented himself at the Rouza-e-Rasool Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) and humbly stated: “Oh Rasool Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam)! I am your guest.”

Hazrat Abu Abdullah Ebnul Jala (rahmatullahi alaihe) fell asleep after this. He was blessed with the vision of the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) in a dream. In the dream, the Beloved Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) gave bread to Abu Abdullah Ebnul Jala (rahmatullahi alaihe). Abu Abdullah Ebnul Jala (rahmatullahi alaihe) ate half of the bread in the dream.

To his amazement, Hazrat Abu Abdullah Ebnul Jala (rahmatullahi alaihe) found the other half of the bread in his hand after he woke up from his sleep.

Abu Abdullah Ebnul Jala (rahmatullahi alaihe) was an inhabitant of Bagdad. He was a disciple of Abu Torab Bakhshi (rahmatullahi alaihe).

Imam Abu Obaida (rahmatullahi alaihe)

Imam Abu Obaida (rahmatullahi alaihe) came to Makkah al-Mukarramah in 214 Hijri. He passed way in 224 Hijri after living in Makkah al-Mukarramah for ten years.

It is narrated that Imam Abu Obaida (rahmatullahi alaihe) dreamed the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) while he was making preparations to leave Makkah al-Mukarramah after the completion of the Hajj. In the dream, Imam Abu Obaida (rahmatullahi alaihe) saw that the Beloved Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam), accompanied by guards, had arrived. Thousands of devotees had thronged to convey their salaams and to do musafaha (Islamic shaking of hands) with their Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam). The guards, however, prevented Imam Abu Obaida (rahmatullahi alaihe) from coming near the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam). Imam Abu Obaida (rahmatullahi alaihe) asked the guards why he was being prevented from going near the Beloved Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam). In reply, the guards stated: “You have expressed your intention to return to your native country Iraq. For this reason, you are being prevented to come near the Beloved Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) to convey your salaam.”

In the end, Imam Abu Obaida (rahmatullahi alaihe) was permitted to see the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) to convey his salaam and to do the musafaha as soon as he pledged not to return to his native country.

In the morning, Imam Abu Obaida (rahmatullahi alaihe) cancelled his planned return to his native country. Thereafter, he spent the remaining years of his life in Makkah al-Mukarramah.

Hazrat Bayazid Bostami (rahmatullahi alaihe)

Hazrat Bayazid Bostami (rahmatullahi alaihe) narrates that once an individual came to him and stated that a saint of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala lives in a nearby city.

After hearing this, Hazrat Bayazid Bostami (rahmatullahi alaihe) went on a journey to meet the saint. Once in the city, Bayazid Bostami (rahmatullahi alaihe) came to the mosque to meet the described saint. The saint also arrived at the mosque from his residence. Bayazid Bostami (rahmatullahi alaihe) observed that once inside, the so-called saint proceeded to spit inside the mosque. After seeing this, Bayazid Bostami (rahmatullahi alaihe) immediately left the place. He reasoned that if the individual had been a true saint, he would have properly honoured the mosque and would have never spit in the mosque in the first place. Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala would have given the individual sound judgment to honour the mosque had the individual conformed to the Shariah. Therefore, such an individual could never be a true saint of Allah.

On the same night, Hazrat Bayazid Bostami (rahmatullahi alaihe) was honoured with the vision of the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) in a dream. In the dream, the Beloved Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) stated: “Oh Bayazid! Your actions have brought ruhani barakaat for you.”

In fact, Hazrat Bayazid Bostami (rahmatullahi alaihe) was elevated to the position of saint the next day.

Dream of a saint

Hazrat Besherhafi (rahmatullahi alaihe) was a famous saint.

Besherhafi (rahmatullahi alaihe) was once blessed with the vision of the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) in a dream. In the dream, the Beloved Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) stated that it is a good deed for the rich and the powerful to show mercy and kindness to the saints. It is even better for the saints to be proud against the rich regarding wealth. This means that it is a duty for the saints not to turn to wealthy individuals for money.

Besherhafi (rahmatullahi alaihe) was born in a place called Morou. He used to live in Baghdad and remained intoxicated all the time early in his life. One day Besherhafi (rahmatullahi alaihe) was walking on the street while intoxicated. A piece of paper suddenly caught his attention. The paper contained Bismillah Shareef (Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim”). Besherhafi (rahmatullahi alaihe) became very restless when he saw the piece of paper on the ground. He picked up the piece of paper, kissed it with great respect, and took it home. Besherhafi (rahmatullahi alaihe) put attar on the piece of paper and placed it in a high place.

Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'alla liked the action of Besherhafi (rahmatullahi alaihe) and forgave him. Besherhafi (rahmatullahi alaihe) became a saint from that day on.

“I am waiting for Muhammad Ibn Ismail Bukhari”

In Tarikh-i-Bagdad, Abu Bakr Khatib (rahmatullahi alaihe) writes about the famous saint Abdul Wahid Taravelmi.

Taravelmi narrates that he was once blessed with the auspicious vision of the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) in a dream. In the dream, Taravelmi saw that the Beloved Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam), accompanied by the Sahabah-e-Keram (the Companions), was waiting for some one. Taravelmi asked: “Oh Rasool Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam)! Are you waiting for some one? At this, the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) replied: “I am waiting for Muhammad Ibn Ismail Bukhari.”

After a few days, it came to be known that Imam Bukhari (rahmatullahi alaihe) passed away at exactly the very moment that Taravelmi saw the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) in the dream.

It is a well-known fact that for many days, the grave of Imam Bukhari (rahmatullahi alaihe) used to give off strong fragrance of musk. Devotees from far and near used to collect soil from the grave as tabarruk (seeking blessings with the relics of the saints).

Approval of Bukhari Shareef

Hazrat Abu Yeazid Marushi was a famous Islamic scholar.

Abu Yeazid Marushi narrates that once he was sleeping at the Masjid-ul-Haram. During this time, he was blessed with the vision of the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) in a dream. In the dream, the Beloved Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) stated: “Oh Abu Yeazid! Why do not you teach my book?” At this Abu Yeazid Marushi asked: “Oh Rasool Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam)! Which one is your book?” The Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) stated: “The book collected by Muhammad Ibn Ismail Bukhari is my book.”

Certainly, Bukhari Shareef is the second greatest book on earth after the Holy Qu’ran.

A miraculous incident

It is narrated that a very pious individual by the name of Marwah Ibn Makbal used to live in Cairo. He was the descendant of Imam Hussein (alahis salaam). The ruler of Cairo once became very angry with Marwah Ibn Makbal. The ruler ordered his guards to insert hot iron rods into the eyes of Marwah Ibn Makbal as a punishment.

After a long time, Marwah Ibn Makbal got the opportunity to visit Madinah al-Munawara. Once in Madinah al-Munawara, he came and stood before the Rouza-e-Rasool Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) and narrated his conditions.

On the same night, Marwah Ibn Makbal was blessed with the vision of the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) in a dream. The Beloved Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) gently rubbed his blessed palm over the eyes of Marwah Makbal. After he woke up, Marwah Makbal found to his amazement that his eyes were completely healed and his eyesight restored. This particular event became well known in Madinah al-Munawara.

Over the course of time, the ruler of Cairo came to learn that Marwah Makbal’s eyes were intact. The ruler thought that his hangmen did not punish Marwah Makbal as they were instructed to do. However, many individuals who had direct knowledge of Marwah Makbal’s conditions testified that he was blind before visiting Madinah al-Munawara. After hearing this, the ruler became ashamed.

This particular incident proves that the mujizas (miracles) of the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) continue to take place even though he is no longer with us physically. His mujizas and prophethood will continue until the Day of Judgment.

Endless salaam and Durood upon the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam).

Benefits of Durood Shareef

Allama Ibn Jouzi narrates from Ibn Banan Ispahani.

One night, Ibn Ispahani saw the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) in a dream. In the dream, Ibn Ispahani asked the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam): “Oh Rasool Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam)! Your descendant Muhammad ibn Idrīs has departed from this world. Do you have any special gift for him?” In reply, the Beloved Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) stated: “I have prayed to Almighty Allah Subhanahu Wa Tala'a for the complete forgiveness of ibn Idrīs Al-Shafi'i on the Day of Judgment.”

After hearing this, Ibn Banan Ispahani asked the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) how Imam al-Shafi'i (rahmatullahi alaihe) reached such an elevated position. The Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) replied: “Shafi'i used to recite such a Durood upon me that on one else has ever recited before. When asked about the particular Durood, the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) stated:

Allahumma salli ala muhammadin kullama zakarahuz zaakirun wa salli ala muhammadin kullama ghafala un zikrihil ghafilun.

("O Allah! Shower blessings on Muhammad and his family whenever he is remembered by those who remember him, and shower blessings on Muhammad and his family whenever he is not remembered by the negligent, and grant him peace constantly in abundance.")
