“I am waiting for Muhammad Ibn Ismail Bukhari”

In Tarikh-i-Bagdad, Abu Bakr Khatib (rahmatullahi alaihe) writes about the famous saint Abdul Wahid Taravelmi.

Taravelmi narrates that he was once blessed with the auspicious vision of the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) in a dream. In the dream, Taravelmi saw that the Beloved Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam), accompanied by the Sahabah-e-Keram (the Companions), was waiting for some one. Taravelmi asked: “Oh Rasool Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam)! Are you waiting for some one? At this, the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) replied: “I am waiting for Muhammad Ibn Ismail Bukhari.”

After a few days, it came to be known that Imam Bukhari (rahmatullahi alaihe) passed away at exactly the very moment that Taravelmi saw the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) in the dream.

It is a well-known fact that for many days, the grave of Imam Bukhari (rahmatullahi alaihe) used to give off strong fragrance of musk. Devotees from far and near used to collect soil from the grave as tabarruk (seeking blessings with the relics of the saints).
