“Keep your five senses under control”

Hazrat Dataganj Baksh (rahmatullahi alaihe) was a renowned Muslim scholar and saint. His mazar (grave) is situated in Lahore, Pakistan.

Hazrat Dataganj Baksh (rahmatullahi alaihe) had the distinction to see the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) in dream several times. He once saw the Beloved Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) in a dream. In the dream, Hazrat Dataganj Baksh (rahmatullahi alaihe) asked: “Oh Rasool Allah sallallahu alaihe wa sallam! Give me some advice.” At this, the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) replied: “Keep your five senses under control.”

The five senses consist of hearing, sight, taste, touch, and smell. Bringing these five senses under control to serve Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala is the ultimate devotion and goal of every Muslim. Only by harnessing the five senses for the pleasure of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala can one become a true and pious Muslim. All knowledge and awareness are obtained through the five senses.
