Memorization of the the Holy Qu’ran

Hazrat Khwaja Bakhtiyar Kaki (rahmatullahi alaihe) was born in Turkistan in 583 Hijri. He passed away in Delhi on the 14th of Rabiul Awwal in 633 Hijri during the period of Sultan Iltutmish. Khawza Bakhtiyar Kaki (rahmatullahi alaihe) was the spiritual successor of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisty (rahmatullahi alaihe).

Khwaja Bakhtiyar Kaki (rahmatullahi alaihe) narrates that he was once very anxious to memorize the holy Qu’ran. However, it proved to be extremely difficult for him to memorize the Holy Qu’ran.

On one auspicious night, Khwaja Bakhtiyar Kaki (rahmatullahi alaihe) saw the Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) in a dream. In the dream, Khwaja Bakhtiyar Kaki (rahmatullahi alaihe) cried and humbly stated: “Please give me some memory so that I can memorize the Holy Qu’ran.”

The Beloved Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) showed mercy to Khwaja Bakhtiyar Kaki (rahmatullahi alaihe) and stated: “Recite Surah Yusuf. You will be able to memorize the Holy Qu’ran if Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala wants.”

Upon awakening, Khwaja Bakhtiyar Kaki (rahmatullahi alaihe) started to recite Surah Yusuf. As a result, Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala gave him the ability to memorize the Holy Qu’ran at an advanced age.

According to Khwaja Bakhtiyar Kaki (rahmatullahi alaihe), whoever wants to memorize the Holy Qu’ran should regularly recite Surah Yusuf.
